Paul Southworth is the founder and co-owner of Turboweb, alongside Sarah Moffitt, and has been building websites, digital tools and probably more internal systems than anyone has kept count of since creating his first website back in 1999. He’s always been big on ideas, systems and finding better ways to do things, whether that means solving a technical problem, streamlining a process or disappearing down a rabbit hole because he’s convinced there must be a smarter way.
Over more than two decades, Paul has helped shape Turboweb into the company it is today, working with businesses and organisations throughout Aotearoa and further afield. While he’s stepped back from much of the day-to-day website work, he remains closely involved in Turboweb’s direction, technology and bigger-picture thinking.
These days, much of Paul’s working week is dedicated to Aroha Kaikorai Valley, the community-led environmental project he helped establish to restore and protect the Kaikorai catchment in Ōtepoti. His work there covers everything from strategy, funding and partnerships through to predator control, biodiversity projects and getting stuck into restoration work on the ground.
It’s a natural fit for someone who likes solving complicated problems and then actually doing something about them.
Away from Turboweb and the valley, Paul plays double bass with Bulletproof Convertible and can often be found cycling his way around Ōtepoti’s hills.
