Brighton Gold

Brighton Gold

INTRODUCTION

Brighton Gold free-range eggs is a great example of a kiwi business that had to pivot swiftly during level 4 and level 3 of New Zealand’s coronavirus response.

Cafes and other eateries accounted for 50% of their daily egg sales, so when those businesses had to close at short notice Brighton Gold owner Cavan Jenkinson had 3,000 laying hens on his farm, all still laying eggs.

In order to maintain their flock size, Brighton Gold needed to find a new market for those excess eggs. Home delivery of trays of eggs to Dunedin households proved to be the solution.

Turboweb’s new SinglePage style website was exactly what Brighton Gold needed to automate their home-delivery sales.

The new home-delivery option means that Brighton Gold are busier than ever. Individual households just don’t use as many eggs as a café, and it can take up to 20 household deliveries to cover the same amount of eggs that used to be sold to a single café.

In the early days, those orders came in by phone, social media, email and text, with a variety of payment methods being used, and needing to be confirmed before delivery could take place.

By streamlining and automating the ordering, payment, and delivery details through the new Brighton Gold website, Turboweb are saving Brighton Gold plenty of precious time, which can now be spent on other parts of the business.

The site didn’t need to be a large, multi-page site showcasing every aspect of Brighton Gold’s business. What they needed was to get up and running ASAP with a smooth, sleek little order form that worked on all types of devices. The Brighton Gold website makes it totally painless for people to order eggs from the comfort of their own homes.

CUSTOM WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT

The Brighton Gold website was a variation of Turboweb’s new SinglePage website, with e-commerce capabilities added.

Turboweb’s developers created a tidy wee order form with a couple of drop-down selectors for people to choose which tray of eggs they wanted, enter their details and click the ‘pay with credit card’ button.

The credit card payments are handled through integration with Stripe, which ensures the payments are securely verified as part of the ordering process.

Once an order is confirmed, it becomes visible through the website’s admin dashboard. As the orders are packed and filled, Brighton Gold can change their status from ‘pending’ to ‘in progress’, or ‘delivered’. Because Turboweb’s admin dashboard is designed for use from any device, the status can be updated by the delivery driver as soon as a delivery is made.

There’s even a handy function to print out the day’s delivery list right there from the dashboard.
