Selwyn Grave Barber

Bringing a traditional Barber shop into the 21st Century

Selwyn Grave Barber is a bit of an institution in men’s grooming in Dunedin. The business has been located on Moray Place for over 50 years, with Selwyn being a hairdresser since 1954. Selwyn came to Turboweb to get a new website, as it was time to get in on the technology. Customers needed a place to find info on Selwyn Grave Barber online – like shop hours, products on offer and services.

CREATIVE BRIEF

Selwyn wanted the business to show its roots as a traditional barber. Using the traditional barber pole colours was fundamental to the design. The history, and traditional barber style of the business were key to the design. Highlighting the longevity of the business – starting in 1961 was another integral part of the design.

WEBSITE

The Selwyn Grave Barber website brings that traditional barber look into the 21st century. Through the use of the barber pole colours, and modern fonts, the website gives a modern take on the traditional. The website has three clear call outs – grooming of hair and beard, products for men and walking sticks. The homepage also states some of the key points of difference Selwyn’s hairdressers offers – there’s no appointments necessary and limited waiting time, as they have four chairs. It also clearly states their opening hours, as unlike a lot of women’s hairdressers, they’re not open evenings.

LOGO

Selwyn Graves logo uses the classic men’s barber look, updated to suit the 21st century through its use of font. ‘Since 1961’ adds to the tradition and integrity of the business. The classic white and red barber pole colours have been used here to go with the traditional barbershop feel.

Barber and Owner

We needed to update and refresh our out of date previous website. Our main concern was to appoint someone to build our website that would professionally reflect our business, our philosophy, and communicate who we are and what we do. Turboweb was recommended to us by several customers and we decided to approach them to see what they could do for our business. At the first meeting we were aware that they were on our wavelength and had no hesitation in going ahead with the proposed website. The process was easy, efficient, and professional. After a bit of tweaking we were very happy with the end result.
