Starting in grass-roots rural New Zealand, RD Petroleum has 24/7 fuel sites across the South Island and supplies bulk fuel, home heating diesel, lubricants, fuel storage products, and aviation fuel across the South Island to the rural, residential and commercial sectors.

RDP has an extensive modern fleet utilising leading-edge technology and working round the clock to provide a top-notch delivery service. From bases in Nelson, the West Coast, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin and Invercargill, RDP has a centralised dispatch and scheduling team with a real-time overview of the tanker fleet. Matched with an up-to-date database of client orders and an easy-to-use smartphone app, RDP provides an easy and reliable delivery service, helping their customers to never run out.

CREATIVE BRIEF

The RD Petroleum team had three main goals for their website upgrade. Firstly, they wanted the site to provide a better experience for mobile users, especially for tourists and travellers looking for fuel sites while on the road. They also wanted the site to provide a better flow for visitors through the website, letting people easily find the information they need. And they wanted to update the whole look and feel of the site, with consistent design and layout, including forms and PDF downloads.

CONTENT

Turboweb’s content team worked with RD Petroleum to structure their new site in such a way that visitors could easily find the information they wanted from the home page, and through two menus at the head of the site. All pages contain links out to further related information in a way that flows through the site and doesn’t spiral into closed loops or dead ends.

The content was written to make the most of RDP’s visibility through search engines (Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO) which involves, among other things, making sure that every page is there for a reason, and answers the questions that a visitor to the site might have. Search engines reward sites that provide great reader experience, and Turboweb helped craft content that does just that.

Each of the RD Petroleum fuel sites has their own page on the website, and each of these is fully searchable from an integrated Google Map, which allows a phone user to easily and quickly see which site is closest to them, zoom in for directions, click through to the site’s page for the relevant details, and even open the directions in the Google Maps app on their phone for super simple navigation.

With such a large website, with so many types of information to keep track of, it’s important that the administration part of the website is well designed and easy to use. To make life easy for the website administrator, Turboweb has organised the content of the site into different modules. For instance, to update information about a fuel site, the administrator would use the Fuel Sites module. To update a product, they select the Products module, and so on for testimonials, team members, downloadable files, frequently asked questions, etc.
