Bowalley Free Range eggs

Bowalley Free Range eggs

INTRODUCTION

Anna Craig from Bowalley Free Range contacted Turboweb about a website in late 2020. We worked around holiday shut-down time to ensure their website was fully up and running for its launch in late January 2021.

The coolest thing about Bowalley Free Range eggs (for us, from a geeky perspective) is their egg cartons that you see across the South Island in New World and Pak’n’Save have a QR Code that takes you directly to their live video feed on the website of the hens happily living free-range life on the farm!

CREATIVE BRIEF

Anna already had packaging and a real plan around their values as a business of sustainability, transparency and family. The website design, content, and logo had to work in with their existing ideas, packaging design and feel. They worked with a great local photographer to get some fantastic imagery which brings the website to life.

WEBSITE

We think the photography really makes this website! We worked closely with the Craig family from Bowalley Free Range to coordinate the set-up of their live feed video, giving them some tips and coaching on how best to set-up their system. Paul at Turboweb has such a wealth of knowledge around audio and video production, that we could help them bring a great experience to their consumers.

What makes this website so successful is that it instantly connects the consumer, right from the supermarket, to Bowalley Free Range as more than just free-range. It perfectly showcases the unique family farm and forward-thinking agricultural practices that are creating a healthier, happier and more sustainable way for customers to consume. Even if it is just two soft-boiled eggs for breakfast!

LIVE VIDEO FEED

On each hand-packed box of Bowalley Free Range eggs, there’s a QR Code that takes you straight to the live video feed where you can see the Bowalley Free Range hens enjoying life, whether out in the paddock (on a fine day) or in their state-of-the-art chicken coop that’s even powered by solar panels. We think it’s one of the coolest ways we’ve seen a food brand use technology and bring a paddock-to-plate experience to the consumer.

LOGO

Turboweb worked with Bowalley Free Range to create a logo that worked in with their existing packaging. Styling then flows through the website with similar font usage and it ties in well with the Bowalley packaging, utilising similar colours to their recycled packaging material and the egg shape from their size guide.

WEBSITE CONTENT

Great photos scattered throughout the website content share the family history, sustainable practices, cute-as-a-button pets and healthy, happy hens to their potential customers. The Turboweb content team worked closely with Anna on further developing the brand's feel and expand on the history and values. Anna and her two furry friends, Beau and Pearl, are the face of Bowalley Free Range and so key to the website content was incorporating that relationship with readers. With large, sweeping banners, the website has a relaxed, friendly and down-to-earth kiwi feel. Transparency in the marketplace is becoming a big part of consumer trust and choices, so sharing information about their sustainable practices and how they care for their hens was pivotal.

I wanted a local organisation that would be able to take on the project and be able to figure out the technical side which would allow me to focus on developing the brand. Turboweb stood out to me as their website, and examples showed they were capable of developing a variety of websites. After speaking with Paul and having such a prompt response to any queries, I knew they were the team for me.
The process was very smooth with Turboweb providing answers to the many questions and challenges I posed very promptly.
The final website exceeded expectations! Turboweb encapsulated the ‘feel’ of Bowalley Free Range in the design and artwork of the website. They took a portfolio on the brand and delivered a website that matched our vision.
