The Greenhouse Florist

INTRODUCTION

The Greenhouse Florist has been Mosgiel’s florist for over 50 years. Many of the flowers that the shop uses are grown in the Mosgiel region. John van Delft comes from a long line of green thumbs and has spent more than 50 years growing, winning gold medals at flower shows. Mary van Delft comes from a background in retail, catering, and crafts and found a creative outlet in floristry. 
 

CREATIVE BRIEF

John and Mary wanted a modern website that was easy to use and mobile friendly. They wanted to have a banner on the homepage that would promote current specials and dates coming up in the calendar year, such as Mother’s Day specials or Valentine’s Day. They wanted an uncluttered design with a one-page processing payment system. Delivery costs needed to be automatically included with orders. The business is also a member of the Interflora network, so needs to be capable of easily taking international flower orders.

The Greenhouse Florist has a shop that while looking clean, simple and modern, actually has a lot of information concisely displayed on one page. Things like bouquet size, rural delivery, additional treats like chocolates and teddies and more needed to be in the one-page order form. The website works well on mobile, with the online consumer market increasing moving to mobile purchasing, it’s important functionality for The Greenhouse Florist to have. The one-page processing form makes it really easy for consumers to buy flowers and give all those details needed, like the message for the card and more.
The Greenhouse Florist also needed some special pages, to promote special things like wedding flowers. Here they have a beautiful gallery showcase showing some of their wedding bouquets.
The homepage banner gives a great contrast to the modern crisp white of the website, injecting a beautiful array of colour and letting the flowers speak for themselves. These can also be switched out regularly to match the upcoming important dates and specials throughout the year. Up to five products can also be featured on the homepage, hopefully increasing sales for those particular products.
