Southern Butcheries

INTRO

Southern Butcheries; Woodlands and Isla Bank Butcheries are one of those classic kiwi business stories that we love. Craig Hamilton has worked in butcheries since a boy and when the opportunity to buy a butchery came about in 1999, Craig jumped at it. Craig has close ties to the Woodlands area, having gone to the local school. Craig went on to purchase Isla Bank butchery in 2008. The businesses have a real focus on supporting the local community and they believe they had the first mobile homekill truck in the area. If you’re stopping by Woodlands be sure to pop in, it’s a popular pie stop with all the locals.
 

CREATIVE BRIEF

Craig and Fiona at Southern Butcheries had a website that was getting to be difficult to use, not just for visitors to the website but for staff. A lot of customers used the online processing forms for booking in homekill (where they could pick what cuts they would want from their beast) and the butchers in the shop were getting a printout that was often unreadable. The businesses also needed to have some different options, Isla Bank is a butchery, while Woodlands also has a shop that sells hot food and delicious meals to go.
 

WEBSITES

Woodlands Butchery has a nice wide banner where you can see the premises – ideal for those driving by to associate with the business. On the homepage there is also callout boxes with the main services, along with a large image of their mouth-watering pies, enticing you to look at their food to go. With an easy Book Now button for the homekill truck on the homepage, it’s easy for local farmers to book in the homekill truck and fill in the form and book in their paddock to plate experience. What we love about Woodlands Butchery is they tell so much with images, like their meat packs under retail – you see exactly what you get. They had a full day shoot with the Turboweb photographer and man did they get some fantastic photography from it!
Isla Bank Butchery focuses on their four main services – the Homekill Truck, Abattoir Services, Processing Forms and Retail Store. What you might not notice about the homepage design is that they have two navigation menus on the homepage. One for About, Gallery and Contact, and then the main one in black with the Services, Retail, Retail Pricing and Processing forms. This makes it really easy for a lot of great website content to be easily navigable by website visitors. We love that the opening hours and phone number are big and bold and show across every page.
Both websites have a fantastic wealth of content for the discerning buyer. People can check pricing and find a whole lot of useful information. From sausage types, to meat cuts with prices, to meat packs. The photos of all the meat packs easily and effectively tell people what to expect and look fantastic. We think these two websites are fantastic examples of what you can do with top quality, professional photography and the difference it can really make to your website.
