Six Tips that can Improve your Website for Users - 5th Oct 2017

We’re talking about User Experience (UX), a fancy word for how users (people) find the experience when they go to your website. When you think of how a user would find using your website, for example, is it a slow, confusing, process? Or a quick, simple and easy to use experience? We’re hoping the latter!

Your website is your 24/7 sales person, so its paramount to have a powerful asset that is a pivotal part of your marketing presence. The rapidly changing world of technology means your website can struggle to keep up, and can soon look outdated, or not work as effectively, as users browsing habits change. While a full redesign might be ideal, you may not have the time or money to do undertake such a big project at this stage. That’s where a few tweaks like these can help.
 

1. Don’t be afraid of white space
 

We know white space can be scary, but don’t be afraid. White space allows users (people who view your website) to concentrate more easily on the content. It makes your content more legible, and increases attention, so if you’ve got something key or a lot of info on a page – best to keep it simple and use white space.
 

2. Pick up your speed (page speed that is)

3. Be mobile friendly


What does your website look like on mobile or a device? Can users easily navigate your pages? Do you have a ‘burger button’? 4. Where’s your heading at?


Where’s your head at when it comes to headings? A well written heading should include key words that tell search engines (such as Google and Bing) about the page, so that you get targeted traffic to your website. Headings guide people through your website, (people simply scan the page, to find the info they’re looking for) so having accurate and specific headings, with matching content is key.
 

5. Clearly show hyperlinks


Hyperlinks are those links within your text to somewhere else that traditionally are a different colour and underlined. Keeping them clearly coloured differently from the text and underlined, means more viewers will identify what they are and use them. Also think about the length of your hyperlink, don’t go making it a whole paragraph – be realistic here. Some ‘best practice’ tips – try using a noun or a noun verb combination of where you’re linking through to that’s descriptive, and pop the link at the end of a sentence for added punch. Eg. 6. Use bullet points


Don’t shoot the runner here, but using bullet points really can help. Bullet points can help users get all the info they want, concisely and quickly. They’re great for displaying key features of a product, ways to solve a problem, or frequently asked questions. Moreover, there’s more to just your traditional dots or numbers these days, there’s snazzy icons and symbols that you can use to highlight key features of something.

All these things can help make users enjoy visiting your website.
