I’ve got a new phone, computer or tablet and need to set up my Turboweb email. What do I do?

Congrats on getting a new device, to set up your email, you’ll need your unique username and password and you’ll need our general email settings. If you’ve got several devices or you’re not too tech savvy, we’d recommend talking to your local IT provider to help you get everything all set up.

What are my Turboweb email settings?

Give us a call if you’ve lost your username and password, we can help you out. Our general email settings are under 'General Email Settings' under 'Help'.

I keep getting a notification that my email has reached quota, what does this mean?

If you keep getting this kind of notification, it’s time to give us a call and get on top of your email. We can offer a range of suggestions to help you get the best experience out of your email. 

Help! My website is broken who do I contact?

You can contact us immediately by phone on 0800 887 269 or you can email support@turboweb.co.nz. There are a few things you can provide to make it easier for us to troubleshoot your issue. You can let us know what web browser you are using (eg. Chrome, Internet Explorer etc). You can also let us know on what device you’re experiencing an issue – is it on a computer, smart phone or tablet? And you can send us a screenshot. Most errors that occur with Turboweb include an error message that has a unique ID so we can quickly and easily diagnose your error so please include that information if you see one.

What’s involved in creating a website?

A lot goes into making a website, probably a lot more than people realise. When you partner with Turboweb, you get a team of local experts who are happy to help. The website co-ordinate will be your main point of contact throughout the process. Depending on what you go with, your website could involve working with a professional local photographer, graphic designers, content writers, and website developers. We also offer customers ongoing technical support and run them through how to use their website before it goes live. This means, should you ever want any changes you can make them yourself or we’re just a phone call away.

Can I bring my own logo or website design to Turboweb?

Yes, you can. We also create logos and website designs in conjunction with you. If you are bringing your own design please do bring it in when you first meet us, as it’s a good indication as to what you’re after. When it comes to website design, we like to check that it will work across a wide range of devices – desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones. This can mean some elements in a design might need to change a little to work on different devices. If you’re interested in refreshing your logo or getting a new logo made up, feel free to bring in sketches, colour ideas or other logos that you like to show us.

Do you provide ongoing support with websites?

Yes, we do. As part of your website we offer ongoing support. This means should you ever need to make any changes, or experience any kind of issue, we’re just a phone call away or you can drop in and see us. We offer help and support as part of your website plan. 

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. Having great SEO means you rank well on Google, Bing and other search engines – which means more organic (as opposed to paid) traffic to your site.
Getting great SEO can be a tricky business, and search engines like Google are a lot smarter than they used to be. The leading search engines like Google and Yahoo! use crawlers to look through your website content and then rank it accordingly. The goal of a good search engine is to deliver the best possible results to humans searching, so your website needs to 'deliver the goods'.

My website is live, why isn’t my website number one on Google?

Our first question here would be how long has your website been live? Apparently, it can take anywhere from four days to four weeks for your brand-new website to be crawled and indexed by Google. You can help Google index your website by getting us to set-up your Google Package and submit your sitemap in Google Search Console. This helps tell Google what to look for an index on your website. 

How can I increase my website’s performance in Google?

There’s a lot of things you can do to improve your website’s performance in Google or in Search Engines as a whole. Keep in mind that the industry is changing all the time in line with changes in consumer behaviour. Here’s a few suggestions that may help:

  • Cross linking between pages of the same website to provide more links to important pages may improve visibility.
  • Writing content which includes frequently searched keywords and phrases, so that it can be found with a wide variety of search queries can help increase traffic (but don't try to be everything to everyone, ensure you stay on-topic).
  • Updating content regularly (like adding news and events via your Simple Web Manager administration) will keep search engines coming back to index pages, and thus increase traffic.
  • Having relevant, well written, specific content on a topic will keep a user on your page (as opposed to someone quickly leaving your page, which search engines track).
  • Having a great user experience so that viewers of your site can easily navigate your site (say on PC, and mobile) will also help with SEO and keeping users on your site.

There’s lots more technical stuff that can help increase your ranking, such as having keywords in the code of your website, and a description of each page in the code. I’ve been offered discounted/ free Google Ads – why shouldn’t I do it?

Before you jump in and take up an offer for free or discounted Google Ads, please look at who has sent you this offer and double check they’re legitimate. We have a great article on how to spot scammers and this kind of hook is a major one. If it sounds too good to be true, in our experience, it probably is. Our advice is always to build up a solid foundation of content on your website that is up-to-date and relevant so that you get the best results you can, without having to spend money, before considering Google Ads.

How do I pay my account with Turboweb?

Good question. You can use this form to pay Turboweb Ltd via credit card. Please note paying by credit card will incur an additional processing fee. How long does it take to launch a website from start to finish and why?

This is a tricky one to answer because a lot of the process from start to finish is about how dedicated and engaged you are in the website process. It’s not a 24-hour process by any means but we can make your website a priority if you need it launched by a certain date. Just let us know the ideal date at your initial meeting and we’ll let you know if that timeline is realistic. There’s a lot that goes into creating a website, from the design to the content and technical build behind the scenes.

Why should I get professional photography?

We think there’s a lot to be said about the benefits of professional website photography. Let’s look at another example that floats around the internet – ever been looking to buy a house and seen the difference between professional photography and that of the homeowner? Well, it’s just like that with a website. Using your own imagery, that’s taken professionally, also builds trust in your brand online which helps to convert more visitors to your business.

Why should I pay for website content?

With Turboweb, you don’t have to, but we do recommend that you do. Our content team bring years of experience in the industry with them, so they know how to write engaging content that keeps readers on the page, while also increasing your ranking in search engines such as Google and Bing. Sometimes it can be a real fine balance and not as simple as it seems. What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free tool provided by Google that allows you to analyse the visitor traffic on your website and provide reports on how well your website is performing. What is Google My Business?

When you google a business, if they have a Google My Business listing it comes up on the right-hand side of search results; with images, reviews, opening hours, and a link to your website. Google My Business is also those results that show on Google Maps when you’re out and about. 

Google My Business listings are great because they get you to the top of search results for your business and for your services in your area. They provide visitors with key information so they can get in touch right there and then.

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console helps measure your sites search traffic and performance. You can see what actual terms people search for to find you on Google. You can see impressions (so eyes on results) and clicks (people who after searching that term clicked through to your site). With Google Search Console you can also tell Google what pages to index by submitting your sitemap and you can receive alerts of any errors that Google Search Console tracks.

Why should my business be on Facebook?

It’s a bit about the numbers. Turns out the majority of kiwis are on Facebook. With over two million kiwis on Facebook. Kiwis also spend a lot of viewing time on social media, you can engage with your audience in a different way and build a network or community around a business.

When it comes to different social media, there’s just so much out there and it’s always changing – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Snapchat, TikTok, Pinterest, etc. Well, let’s be geeks, and look at the stats before jumping in. In NZ, according to Nielsen Online Ratings, here’s some recent numbers on kiwis on social media:

  • Facebook 2,689,000
  • YouTube 2,236,000
  • Pinterest 727,000
  • Twitter 600,000
  • LinkedIn 561,000
  • Instagram 489,000

Looking at the stats, it looks like Facebook and Youtube are your best bet, as they have the biggest audience, but some platforms are fantastic for certain kinds of businesses or cater more to different age groups. For example, if your audience is under 25, we’d recommend Snapchat (depending on your business), as that’s where all the young ones are. In saying that, social media is always changing and it looks like TikTok will be big in 2020 with younger audiences. 

At the end of the day, it’s about making the time to update your social media and committing to it. If you simply don’t think you have the time or energy for it, talk to us and we can help establish an online marketing plan and template to help you achieve your social media goals for your business, including booking in things like a 30 minute meeting that puts in plan a month of online marketing.

Should my business be on Instagram?

Again, that depends on what your business is doing and what its marketing focus is. If you’re looking to put your business on Instagram, be aware that it’s an image heavy platform – that means you need to invest some time into taking some great photos or get a professional photographer to help build up a portfolio of images to use. We can certainly help with that. There’s lots of competing ideas out there around how many hashtags to use, how much text, and it goes on. Do some testing with your audience and see what works best for your brand. The audience on Instagram does tend to be younger than that on Facebook and has a higher female ratio, so consider the audience and if it works well for your product, before jumping in. 

How hard is it to make changes to my website?

We pride ourselves on having simple, effective and easy to use websites. In fact, our content management system is called just that – Simple Web Manager. We won’t leave you in the dark when it comes to updating your website. It’s easy for you to log in and make changes without having to worry about breaking anything. More importantly, we offer free training for anyone who has a website with us, for you and your staff so you can lean how to make changes to your specific website. You also get ongoing support, and we welcome phone calls and emails, when it comes to making changes.

What is online marketing?

Online marketing is all about leveraging web-based channels to spread a message or story about a company’s brand, products or services to potential customers. Those channels or methods could include email, social media, display advertising, search engine optimisation, google advertising and more. With marketing becoming a saturated market, having your brand seen, heard and available is becoming increasingly important.

All along the way, we consult with our clients, and the website goes through a rigorous approval process before making it out onto the internet. From there, we run you through how to make key changes and touch base with customers on a regular basis to see how they’re going, offering our help and support.

There’s a problem with my website, who do I contact and what do I do?

For example, providing screen shots, error messages, and stating what browser and device you’re using or experiencing the issue can really help.

I received an email saying my website could be ranking better on search engines and that another business can get me no. 1 on Google – is this true?

Hrm, that sounds a little suss to us. Please read this article on how to spot scammers before giving out any details to any company promising to get you to number one on Google. Look out for some key things – spelling and grammar, the email address and generally, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you’re concerned with how your website is ranking on Google. How do I set up a Facebook Pixel?

Facebook has a good how to on how to set up a Facebook Pixel.

A Facebook Pixel is a code that you place on your website, with Turboweb, you can set up Google Tag Manager and have you Facebook Pixel work through that. If this all sounds too techy, just give us call or send us an email. Wondering what a Facebook Pixel is for? Well, it tracks visitors to your website that are also on Facebook, this means you can then retarget those Facebook users with Facebook ads, and you can see interesting stats on who visits your website such as what age or sex they are, and more.

How do I set up a Facebook Page?

It’s really easy to set up a Facebook page, if you already have a website with Turboweb and you’re stuck on how to do it, just give us a call and we can walk you through the process. Facebook has a really good help centre on how to do it. Here’s some info from them on it.

Pages are for businesses, brands, organizations and public figures to share their stories and connect with people. Like profiles, Pages can be customized with stories, events and more. People who like or follow a Page can get updates in News Feed.

To create a Page:

  1. Go to facebook.com/pages/create.
  2. Click to choose a Page type.
  3. Fill out the required information.
  4. Click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: Anyone can create a Page, but only official representatives can create a Page for an organization, business, brand or public figure.

What is TikTok?

TikTok is a social media platform that you download as an app on your phone. It’s for short-form mobile video, inspiring creativity and joy. 

Can I do an internship at Turboweb?
