Stoney Creek - Boots and All. - 03/03/2010

Stoney Creek - Boots and All.When Stoney Creek owner Kerry Crawford asked us to quote for his new website we jumped at the challenge to provide a comprehensive and extensively customised site. Kerry wanted to be able to imbed video, add a blog, and send out newsletters with stock items attached. We chose ecommerce platform Magento www.magentocommerce.com and contracted design company Firebrand for a visually pleasing, easy to navigate site.

We asked Kerry what it was about our proposal that sold it to him. He said that while many website companies tried seducing him with amazing technology and glamorous features we knew his audience and approached the job with the “eye of a retailer”. We also understood that a lot of Stoney Creek’s customers are rural and still battling with dial up internet connections so needed a site that was quick to load. While we may have had an advantage because we built Stoney Creek’s earlier websites it was gratifying to hear that of all the options Kerry considered ours is the one he believes will best sell his great range of outdoor gear.

Even better was hearing that we have achieved a site that is simple and clean with a non-computer geek focus for Stoney Creek’s non geeky customers. If you are looking for great winter boots or other outdoor gear check out Stoney Creek at www.stoneycreekshop.co.nz

George Street Normal School – a website reflecting school principles - 05/02/2010

George Street Normal School – a website reflecting school principlesGeorge Street Normal School highlights strengths, opportunities, learning and character. All of these are evident in their new website launched in time for the new school year.

The strength of the development lay in the planning. The school wanted a site that would make it easy to get information out to parents, prospective parents and the wider school community and would be simple for the school to update. They knew the challenge was going to be accommodating many different kinds of content while keeping the website clean, easy to navigate and informative and chose us to create a site that reflected the school’s character.

And the school’s approach made all the difference. The school principal and board had a clear agenda, knew what they wanted and had everything well planned. Preparation is important and the school made our job easy.

130 years and still going strong! www.georgestreet.school.nz

Merry Christmas from Turboweb - 24/12/2009

Merry Christmas from TurbowebEveryone at Turboweb extends their Christmas cheer to everyone. We've had a pretty full on year this year and learnt some lessons the hard way which have spurred us into planning some serious time in the New Year for the "thinking smarter, working smarter" approach. What this will mean for our customers is a much more efficient approach to getting what you really want.

Christmas Support

We're back on deck in full capacity on the 11th of January.  If you need to contact us over the Christmas break, call us on 03 474 5953 and leave a message, or get in touch via our contact form.

Got a New Year Project?

If you've been thinking about a project for the last little while now is the time to put those thoughts down in writing. Here's a starting point for you:
  1. Project Name (e.g. "website revamp")
  2. Project Aim (e.g. "to give more information about how Acme corp can customise widgets")
  3. Some aims to meet along the way - milestones - this way you can concentrate on a smaller number of steps at a time to make progress
  4. An example or two of someone else who has achieved what you want to  do
  5. A budget - while most people want to spend as little as possible it helps to know what your budget is up front in order to instantly dismiss inappropriate options
With this information you will have a starting point to talk to someone about your project.  Merry Christmas everyone and safe travels.

Paul, Aaron, Bob, Michael and Tonic.

Domain Name Scam - 16/09/2009

It has been brought to our attention that some of our clients have had an email from a company called "ISP Renewal" asking them to renew their domain name.

They claim that renewing with their service, will not alter the WHOIS information and that “you will continue with your current Domain Service Provider”.  This is not the case and if your domain is registered with Turboweb then we are the only company who will issue you with an invoice for it's renewal.  "ISP Renewal" are trying to trick you into clicking the link in the email and entering your credit card details.

Information about the your domain name including the name holder and expiry date of your domain name is publicly available which is why this scam appears legitimate.

Note that if you are a subscriber to the Simple Content Manager service then automatic domain renewal is included in the monthly price.

If you have any concerns or think you may have been a victim of this or a similar scam please contact us an we'll answer any questions you have.

Marathon Effort for Desk Jockey - 13/09/2009

Marathon Effort for Desk JockeyTurboweb team member Paul Southworth undertook to run the 31st Dunedin Moro 1/2 Marathon on Sunday.

With a beautiful warm Dunedin day he managed to complete the run in 2 hours 24 minutes. Not a bad effort for a desk jockey. With over 2000 people walking and running either the full or half marathon it was a sight to see.

When asked if he would run another Paul simply hobbled off to his desk mumbling something about a "Gammy Knee".
