Scamsters try to get into computers through phone call - 20th Nov 2010

As covered in recent media, there is a phone scam underway that is targeting people in New Zealand.  In this scam, the caller claims to be from Microsoft and is calling regarding some urgent updates that need to be made to your computer.  After giving them access to your computer, you are then told that you need to pay for the service to continue to be protected.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs are aware of this scam and advice from them and the police is that if you receive a call like this, hang up immediately.
